Interested in learning how to make your own lotion, but don’t want to end up with greasy, goopy messes? Fear not! There’s plenty of awesome DIY lotion recipes out there that easily absorb and won’t leave you feeling like a greaseball. Check out a few of the many options available and have fun!
Tangerine Face Cream
Create a yummy-smelling face cream using the following ingredients:
- 1 capsule of vitamin E oil
- Juice from 1 tangerine
- 3 tablespoons of raw mango butter
- 3 tablespoons sour cream
Combine all ingredients except the juice in a blender and hit ‘puree.’ Add the juice as the stuff blends until you reach desired consistency. For best results (and to keep the sour cream from spoiling–eww), store this cream in your fridge.
Overnight Body Lotion
Slather yourself with this lotion before bed to wake up with super-soft skin. Ingredients include:
- 1/2 oz beeswax
- 2 oz coconut oil
- 1/2 oz cocoa butter
- 4 tablespoons mineral water
- 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
- 1/2 teaspoon lavender essential oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ylang ylang essential oil
Heat the beeswax, cocoa butter, almond oil and coconut oil in a large saucepan. Add the water and whisk the ingredients vigorously. Remove from heat and continue to whisk until the resulting cream reaches “body temperature” status. Add the essential oils and mix ingredients thoroughly until you have a cool, creamy lotion.
Chocolate and Peppermint Body Butter
This option works as a great holiday gift! Use the following ingredients to create a decadent body butter:
- 1/2 cup cocoa butter
- 6 tablespoons avocado oil
- 1 teaspoon tea tree oil
- Peppermint extract (use as much as you like)
Warm the cocoa butter over medium heat in a saucepan. Stir in the oils, then add the peppermint as desired.
These are just some of the many fabulous DIY lotion recipes available! Store all lotions in airtight containers, preferably (clean) glass jars. Remember to not to go overboard with the oils!
