There are plenty of events that require keen survival skills during the holiday season, and some of them require more than just patience and longsuffering to overcome. With everything else going on this time of year, it is easy to forget some of the basic safety and preparedness skills. Here are a few to keep in mind whether you trim the tree, light the menorah or participate in any other holiday festivities:

Emergency Preparedness Leads to Large Donation to Local Food Bank

The Community Action Services and Food Bank of Provo receives a generous donation of quick-cook meals thanks to the emergency preparations of others. During National Preparedness Month in September, SurvivalBased.com committed to donating one meal for every $10 spent on emergency supplies through their website. Customers responded in a huge way, resulting in a donation of 4,320 meals.

Trick or Treat Contest

Who says grown-ups can’t trick or treat? Not us! Only we want YOU to do the tricking, and we’ll provide the treats. That’s right—you trick. We treat. Every Monday this month, starting on October 8th, we will identify one specific area of emergency preparedness on our Facebook fan page. Go Mylar or Go Home

For years, emergency food supply was synonymous with aluminum cans—#10 aluminum cans to be precise—and for good reason. Readily accessible, easy to use and very familiar, aluminum cans were, and still are, a great way to preserve food for a “rainy day.”

But technology advances and as it does, some older techniques make way for new and improved methods. Not that aluminum cans don’t have their place, but in today’s emergency food supply packaging, Mylar pouches are the way to go.
