Baking Soda Camping/Survival Uses

baking sodaBaking soda. Is there anything it can’t do? Okay, it may not be able to fight a bear, but the powdery white stuff has about a zillion different uses, including those relating to camping and overall survival. Check out some of these uses and don’t forget to stash baking soda with your camping gear or add it to your emergency container!

Personal Care/First Aid

Baking soda makes a fantastic, multi-purpose option for both personal care and first aid. For example, try it as a deodorant, toothpaste, dry shampoo, hand cleaner and facial/body scrub. In terms of first aid, the stuff relieves diaper rash and pain/itchiness from insect bites and sunburn. You can also add baking soda to boots to keep feet dry and blister-free, and to avoid the dreaded trench foot. Ew. Soaking your feet in warm water with baking soda is also lovely after a long day of hiking.

Baking Soda Cleaning

Use baking soda to keep items germ-free when camping or when out of soap and other cleaning products in an emergency situation. Baking soda will clean pots and pans, sinks, showers, countertops, toilets and garbage disposals among many other things. It also works as a fabulous deodorizer–keep a box in your fridge to avoid dealing with annoying food-related smells, or sprinkle it in kitty’s litter box. You’ll be thankful to have it when trapped at home!

Use baking soda when cooking, whether in an emergency situation or camping. Wash fruits and veggies with it, as baking soda’s gritty texture ensures clean produce. Another use is soaking dry beans in baking soda so they’re easier to digest. If a particular dish is high in acidity, add a pinch of baking soda and avoid heartburn. Soaking fish in baking soda before cooking will remove that nasty “raw fish” odor, and using baking soda when preparing wild game also reduces its, um, distinctive taste. It also works as a leavening agent for bread!

These are just a few of the many uses for baking soda! Have at least one box in your home at all times and enjoy using this incredible product.

I clean the bathtub with baking soda. First I sprinkle the whole bathtub with baking soda, then let it stay for about fifteen minutes and then just rub a little bit the surface of the bathtub and of course rinse it with clean water. This method makes your bathtub look like a new one. Regards!Crossness Carpet Cleaners Ltd.
